garage door insualtionGarage door insulation is a great way to save money and the planet!  After reading this post you will not only learn the benefits of insulating your garage door but you will also be armed with the knowledge to either hire a professional to do the job for you or maybe even tackle the challenge yourself and save even more money!

Why Insulate Your Garage Door?

So the question begs to be asked, why insulate your garage door?  Well, the garage is often the one largest uninsulated room in the whole house and if the garage and the house share a common wall then masses of energy and therefore your hard earned cash could be escaping into the atmosphere.  Not only is this bad for your bank balance it is also bad for the worlds atmosphere and adds to global warming.  So why not become greener and save yourself money that can be used in more productive avenues.  Many people are probably now thinking of the initial expense that goes with all home improvements but for a relatively meagre outlay not only are the savings huge but it will pay for itself through reduced energy bills in no time at all.

Different Types Of Garage Door Insulation Kits

There are different types of garage door insulation kit, namely panel insulation and reflective foil bubble insulation.  Insulation panels for garage doors come in a couple of different types such as fibreglass or foam panels. The fibreglass units are normally a solid rectangular panel and the foam type panels have a hardened foam centre with high durable plastic coating on the outside and both forms offer good insulation as well as water resistance.

Reflective foil bubble insulation has bubble insulation as a core material that is covered on both sides by a reflective foil.  The foil on the outside reflects the heat in the summer and the foil on the inside skin reflects the heat back in the winter. This makes it an efficient solution for extreme heat and extreme cold.

Both of these solutions for insulating your garage door are extremely easy and can be done as DIY.  Alternatively, you could hire a professional for quite a cheap rate to do it for you.  The do it yourself garage door insulation kits come in a variety of sizes, 9 foot by 7 foot for a single door and 16 foot by 7 foot for a double door as these are pretty standard measurements for garage doors.  Different companies offer different solutions such as Astro Foil Reflective Insulation kit that includes the main roll of insulation, the double sided reflective tape and also a craft knife for cutting it all to size.  The Panel Foam Garage Door Insulation kit and the Falcon Foam Kit both include the 8 panels needed for a standard door size but you will have to get your own knife!  These kits cost about $100 but are definitely worth it in the long run.

Can All Garage Doors Be Insulated?

Bear in mind that if you have a roller garage door then these kits might not be what you need as they would hinder the door from being able to roll up correctly.

Why not get on the green bandwagon and improve your home at the same time? Fitting garage door insulation will not only save you money but will provide a great sense of well being by doing something good for the world and reducing those unwanted emissions.
